Advertising

Stop motion animation has been used in advertisement. One of the most famous examples of this was the Evian water baby advert, which used photos of adults wearing t-shirts with a printed baby body onto them to form an animation of the baby dancing. This advert went viral and and got over a million hits on YouTube. I really love this advert, and it is cleverly produced and a really good example of stop motion animation.

The video is below:

Music Videos

Stop motion has also been used to create music videos. In January 2009, the music video created by Oren Lavie was a huge viral sensation. It was to the song 'her morning elegance, and Lavie won a grammy for 'Best Short Form Music Video'. The video was shot with only one camera which was hanging from the cieling, and was roughly 3225 still photos for the entire video. Before shooting, it took 4 weeks to produce an animated computer generated storyboard. This is one of my favourite videos I have ever come across on YouTube. It is so creative, and stopmotion used at its best!

Mobile Phones
Even stop motion can be used with mobile phones nowerdays. This animation is the worlds smallest animation, shot with a Nokia N8. This phone has 12 megapixels, and was created using Celescope technology. The tiny character was created with a 3D moduler, and was then stuck on a pin and moved about. This is incredible how this was created, and probably oe of my favourite stop motion animations. It is so creative how the background objects are real life objects, which show really how small 'Dot' is.

Channel Idents
Many channel idents have been created using stop motion animation. One of which is one of my favourites, and has been created for E4. E4 have created a numerous amount of idents, using claymation.

Computer Games

Animation has been created for computer games. One of the most amzing bits of animation for a computer game was for the Virgin Interactive Entertainment Mythos game Magic and Mayhem (1998).
The creatures were constructed by animation expert Alan Friswell, using similar stop-motion techniques used in the films of Willis O'Brien and Ray Harryhausen.
The figures were crerated using modelling clay and rubber, conjoined with a peice of wire and socket joints.Another computer game that was created with stop motion was the game The Neverhood, which features the technique of clay animation. This creates the effect that the animation is 3D, which makes it look almost realistic.
